Texas Hip and Knee Center Research Foundation

In 2006, the Texas Hip and Knee Center – a group practice that works in close cooperation with Plaza Medical Center – established a research foundation dedicated to improving the health of patients with musculoskeletal disorders.

As a group, the center’s fellowship–trained doctors represent nearly eight decades of experience in the field of hip and knee surgery, education and research.

They have made frequent and significant contributions to the medical and scientific literature, and have circled the globe lecturing and teaching on the latest advances in their area of specialty.

Current Research Projects

Foundation-sponsored research currently under way includes:

  • Evaluation and Results of Minimally Invasive Hip and Knee Replacement;
  • Alternative Bearing Materials in Hip and Knee Replacement;
  • Hip Resurfacing - Technique, Outcomes and Results;
  • Evaluation of New Technologies in Hip and Knee Replacement;
  • Orthopedic Medicine - How to Maintain Health in Surgical Patients;
  • Prevention of Blood Loss After Joint Replacement.

The Texas Hip and Knee Center Research Foundation has a large and growing database that cross–references information on the center’s own patients with the latest findings in the field of orthopedics and the epidemiology of osteoarthritis. The database is an important tool in the evaluation of both short– and long–term clinical and functional outcomes.

The Texas Hip and Knee Center itself has recently invested in a sophisticated computer–imaging system that assists in the storage and retrieval of x–ray and implant data.

Financial Support

The Texas Hip and Knee Center Research Foundation – a 501(c) non–profit entity – derives its financial support from a wide variety of generous companies and individuals. Included among the latter are many former patients and their loved ones. The foundation also underwrites important new research projects through grants and other disbursements.
