Education

The surgeons of the Plaza Joint Center are deeply involved in the training of the next generation of joint–replacement specialists.

They sponsor a one–year fellowship in adult reconstruction. Its purpose is to sharpen the diagnosis, decision–making, and technical skills of trained orthopedic surgeons who seek to develop expert proficiency in the area of hip and knee replacement.

Applicants should have already acquired a considerable amount of joint–replacement expertise. If selected, they can look forward to attaining an even more advanced stage of professional development through their immersion in a busy private–practice and educational environment.

The fellows also participate in a variety of ongoing clinical research projects. They are expected to complete two such projects and submit them for publication in a peer–reviewed journal. Clinical research conducted in the Plaza Joint Center is facilitated by electronic access to an extensive repository of clinical data.

The surgeons of the Plaza Joint Center not only mentor their own adult–reconstruction fellows, they are also active in two nearby residency training programs. Dr. Crofford is particularly active in the residency program at John Peter Smith Hospital, Tarrant County’s largest taxpayer–supported medical facility.
